Armor swapping is primarily done to upgrade your armor and increase your chances of survival in a firefight. When engaging in a battle, if you come across a downed enemy or find a better armor piece lying on the ground, you can quickly swap your current armor with the upgraded one. This allows you to take advantage of the better protection and hit point bonuses offered by the higher-level armor.
